The Nuvinty Index

Methodology

The Nuvinty Index is a 0–5 sustainability rating for the brands we feature. It is an editorial assessment designed to give shoppers a clear, at-a-glance sense of how seriously a brand takes its environmental and social impact — without hours of research.

Each brand is assessed against five weighted pillars. Scores are then rounded to the nearest half-point.

Responsible sourcing

25%

Where and how raw materials are sourced — precious metals, gemstones, leather and textiles — and whether they carry credible certification (Fairmined, Responsible Jewellery Council, GRS, RWS, FSC).

Materials & circularity

25%

Use of recycled, lab-grown and lower-impact materials, and whether products are designed to last, be repaired and be resold — rather than to be replaced.

Transparency

20%

How openly a brand publishes its supply chain, factory list and impact data, benchmarked against tools like the Fashion Transparency Index.

Commitments & progress

20%

Whether a brand has credible, time-bound targets (carbon, water, living wages) — and, crucially, evidence they are being met rather than merely announced.

Certifications

10%

Independent, audited verification such as B-Corp certification, which holds brands to rigorous social and environmental standards.

Our sources

We draw on respected public sources — including Good On You ratings, the Fashion Transparency Index, B-Corp records and brands' own published commitments and impact reports — combined with our editorial judgement.

Limitations & how it evolves

No single score can capture the full complexity of a global supply chain, and data availability varies by brand. The Index is a living framework: we review and update scores as brands publish new information and as our coverage grows. It is a guide, not a certification, and we welcome brands to share evidence that would refine their rating.
