42mm stainless steel, ceramic bezel and laser-engraved ceramic wave dial (date at 6), conical helium escape valve, 300m water resistance, calibre 8800 (55-hour reserve), Master Chronometer (METAS).

Who it suits: Someone who wants one do-everything steel diver with the most recognisable Seamaster look; the steel bracelet versions are £5,600.

Buying pre-owned: Check the ceramic bezel insert for chips and that the helium escape valve crown screws down properly; bracelet stretch and missing links matter. The 8800 is a Co-Axial Master Chronometer, so expect a 5-year warranty when new. OMEGA recommends a full service every 5–8 years and a water-resistance check once a year; ask for service history and, ideally, the box and warranty card.

42mm stainless steel, 13.80mm thick, no date window, black aluminium wave dial, black anodised aluminium bezel with Super-LumiNova scale, 300m, calibre 8806, Master Chronometer.

Who it suits: Buyers who like the Diver 300M but want a cleaner, more vintage-feeling dial with an aluminium bezel rather than ceramic.

Based on the 2024 Diver 300M No-Date: 42mm steel, 14.23mm thick, titanium bezel ring, calibre 8806 (55-hour reserve), Master Chronometer. Who it suits: Bond fans buying new who want the latest official 007 tie-in in plain steel.

Seamaster Professional 300M (1993 generation, quartz and automatic)

2541.80 (quartz) (1993–) · 2531.80 (automatic chronometer) · also called Bond Seamaster, Brosnan Seamaster, GoldenEye Seamaster, Seamaster Pro

The 1993 Seamaster Professional Diver 300M with blue wave dial and blue bezel; 2541.80 is quartz (worn in GoldenEye, 1995), 2531.80 is the automatic chronometer worn in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002). Not Master Chronometer.

Who it suits: Anyone after the Brosnan-era Bond look at a lower entry point than a current Diver 300M.

Buying pre-owned: These are older watches: ask whether the dial, hands and bezel insert are original or service replacements, check the crown and valve seals, and get water resistance re-tested. Quartz models need regular battery changes; leaking batteries can damage the movement. Older non-Co-Axial automatics generally need servicing more often than modern Co-Axial calibres.

Buying pre-owned: Previous-generation (233.xx, calibre 8400) examples are not Master Chronometer-certified, so check the reference. Aluminium bezel inserts can fade or scratch. Vintage Seamaster (1948–1970s, incl. Cosmic, Seamaster 120 and Seamaster De Ville)

· also called vintage Omega Seamaster, Seamaster Cosmic, Seamaster 120, Seamaster De Ville

The Seamaster line began in 1948, based on watches made for the British Royal Navy late in the Second World War. Later vintage families include the dressy Seamaster De Ville of the 1960s (which became the separate De Ville collection), the Seamaster 120 diver launched in 1966 (120m, first Omega diver with a date) and the slim, dressy Seamaster Cosmic from 1967. Automatic and manual-wind; not Master Chronometers.

Who it suits: Someone who wants mid-century style and Omega history at a much lower outlay than a new Seamaster, and accepts vintage quirks.

Buying pre-owned: Originality of dial and hands drives value: many old dials have been repainted ('redials'), so check printing quality and consistency of lume; original black dials on pre-1970s Seamasters are rare. Water resistance is not guaranteed on any vintage watch whatever the dial says, so keep it dry until gaskets are replaced and tested. Ask for recent service history.

Questions

What is the difference between the Seamaster 300 and the Diver 300M?

Both are 300m divers. The Diver 300M (42mm, from £5,300) is the modern wave-dial model with a ceramic bezel and helium escape valve. The Seamaster 300 (41mm, from £6,700) is a heritage design based on the 1957 original, with an aluminium bezel, vintage-style lume and calibre 8912. Both are Master Chronometers.

Should I buy an Aqua Terra or a Diver 300M?

The Aqua Terra is a dressier everyday watch with a teak-pattern dial, no diving bezel and 150m water resistance, from £5,600 (41mm on leather). The Diver 300M is a full dive watch with a rotating bezel, helium valve and 300m rating, from £5,300 on rubber. Choose the Aqua Terra for office wear, the Diver for water and sport.

Which Seamaster did James Bond wear?

Pierce Brosnan wore the quartz Seamaster Professional 300M (2541.80) in GoldenEye and the automatic 2531.80 in his later films. Daniel Craig wore Planet Ocean, Aqua Terra and Seamaster 300 models, then the titanium Diver 300M 007 Edition (210.90.42.20.01.001) in No Time To Die. That 007 Edition is still sold, from £8,400 on a NATO strap.

Is a vintage Seamaster a good buy?

It can be, if you buy on condition and originality. The biggest risk is a repainted ('redialled') dial or replaced hands, which hurts value. Treat any vintage watch as not water resistant until it has been serviced and pressure-tested, and favour examples with a recent service history.

Planet Ocean or Diver 300M: which should I choose?

The 2025 Planet Ocean 600M is 42mm, 600m water resistant, has no helium valve and uses calibre 8912, from £7,200 on rubber. The Diver 300M is 42mm, 300m, with the wave dial and helium valve, from £5,300. Pick the Planet Ocean for the deeper rating and sharper modern look; the Diver for the classic Bond style and lower price.
