The UK guide

Where to buy designer bags in the UK

For a new designer bag, buy from the brand's own boutique or website, or a department store or online retailer that stocks it, such as Harrods, Selfridges or Harvey Nichols. For pre-loved, buy from a UK resale shop, reseller or marketplace that guarantees authenticity in writing. Chanel, Hermès and Louis Vuitton never discount new bags, so pre-loved is the only way to pay less for them. Today our partner retailers list 62,664 pre-loved designer bags you can compare here.

Buying new: boutiques, department stores and online

The safest place to buy a new designer bag is the brand itself: its own boutiques and, for most houses, its UK website. Next come the department stores and online retailers the brand supplies, such as Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols in person, and multi-brand websites online. Buying from either means a receipt from a business, UK consumer rights on the purchase and no doubt about authenticity.

Some bags you can only buy from the brand. Hermès sells its leather goods only in its own stores and on hermes.com, and Birkin and Kelly bags in stores only, not online and not through department stores. Louis Vuitton sells only through its own stores, its website and 24S, and says any site calling itself a Louis Vuitton outlet has no connection with it. New Chanel classic bags are sold only in Chanel's own boutiques.

Buying from a website abroad changes the sums. A European or US retailer may charge UK import VAT and duty on delivery, and returning a bag across a border costs more and takes longer. Our import cost calculator adds those charges to the price so you can compare a foreign retailer with a UK one fairly.

Nuvinty's own new-season bag selection is small. Today it lists 134 new bags from T.LUXY, ERDEM and The Jewel Hut, which you can compare on new designer bags. T.LUXY is a boutique in Italy that prices in euros, and UK import charges may be due on delivery unless its checkout says otherwise: see buying from T.LUXY in the UK.

Buying pre-loved: UK shops, resellers and marketplaces

Pre-loved is where most of the choice is, and the only route to a lower price on the brands that never discount. There are three kinds of seller, and they carry different risks: shops you can visit, specialist resellers that sell online, and marketplaces where you buy from individuals and small businesses. Whichever you use, the questions are the same: who checks the bag is genuine, what they promise in writing if it isn't, where it ships from, and whether you can send it back.

UK resale shops you can visit

Seeing a bag in person lets you judge the leather, corners, hardware and smell yourself, and a UK shop means no import charges. Most specialist shops are in London; these are among those that say how they check authenticity (each from the shop's own website, checked 6 Oct 2026):

  • S&R Jewellers (Suttons & Robertsons) · 78 Old Brompton Road, SW7 3LQS&R's handbag specialist authenticates every bag in house and each is also checked by Legit Grails, with its certificate. Bags come with S&R's own 12-month warranty, authenticity guarantee and price-match promise (S&R's terms).
  • CSD (Consigned Sealed Delivered) · 70–72 Marylebone Lane, W1U 2PQEvery piece is checked by its in-house specialists in London before it's listed, with Real Authentication and Entrupy alongside.
  • Bagista · 221 Brompton Road, SW3 2EJBags are checked in-house and with Entrupy's AI-based authentication.
  • Sign of the Times · 5 Elystan Street, SW3 3NTUses Entrupy-based authentication.
  • The Handbag Clinic (Selfridges) · Re-Selfridges, ground floor, 400 Oxford Street, W1A 1ABBuys, sells, restores and authenticates designer bags from its concession in Selfridges. No appointment needed.
  • Designer Exchange · Ground floor, 191 Brompton Road, SW3 1NEBuys, sells and exchanges pre-owned designer bags and clothing. The business started in Knightsbridge and now has stores across the UK and in Spain.
  • Shush London · 1 Wellington Place, St John's Wood, NW8 7PEStates that it guarantees the authenticity of every item it sells.

Designer Exchange also has stores outside London, and Mulberry runs its own pre-loved section online, which is unusual for a brand. For every shop, area by area, see where to buy pre-loved designer bags in London, or find shops near you on the UK pre-loved luxury map. Nobody pays to be listed in our guides.

“Check that all zips, poppers and buckles work properly. It's easy to be distracted by how a bag looks, especially when you already have the perfect outfit in mind for it, but how well it works is just as important.”
Rachel Fox, handbag specialist, S&R Jewellers

Specialist resellers online

Online resellers buy or consign bags, check them in house and sell with their own authenticity promise. Many of the biggest are abroad, so the policy that matters most to a UK buyer is often the import bill and the returns window, not the price. Two we list, from their own policy pages:

  • Rebag (US): ships to the UK by FedEx for $75 and adds UK duty and VAT at checkout, so nothing is due on delivery, but it accepts no returns on international orders and can't ship exotic-skin bags abroad. Buying from Rebag in the UK.
  • The Luxury Closet (Dubai): delivery is included, but import duty and VAT are collected by the courier before delivery; returns are allowed within 3 days on eligible items, and Birkin and Kelly bags can't be returned. Buying from The Luxury Closet in the UK.

Today our partner retailers list 62,664 pre-loved designer bags, from Rebag and The Luxury Closet. Prices shown are the sellers' asking prices, not valuations. Browse them on pre-loved designer bags, or by model on shop by model, where you can line up the same bag across sellers.

Marketplaces

On a marketplace you buy from individuals and small businesses, so the protection comes from the platform, not the seller. eBay sends handbags of £200 or more from selected brands to an independent authenticator before they reach a UK address, and its Money Back Guarantee covers items that don't match the listing when you pay through eBay checkout. Check the item location on every listing: a seller abroad means import VAT and possibly duty. Buying pre-owned luxury on eBay UK covers the thresholds.

Paying less: sales, outlets and bags under £500

Whether a designer bag ever costs less new depends on the brand. Chanel does not put its handbags on sale, Hermès holds no public sales on its leather goods, and Louis Vuitton says it never marks down its prices. None of the three has a store at Bicester Village, and Louis Vuitton warns that discounted Louis Vuitton found online is probably fake unless it is second-hand. For these brands, pre-loved is the only real discount; our page on the Louis Vuitton “outlet” explains why.

Other houses do discount, mostly away from their own boutiques. Gucci, Prada, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Celine, Loewe, Burberry and Mulberry all appear in the Bicester Village directory, and Mulberry also has outlets at Kilver Court in Somerset and Cheshire Oaks. Multi-brand retailers run seasonal sales, and Black Friday 2026 is on 27 November. Our luxury sale tracker shows which brands our UK partner retailers are discounting today, and by how much.

Pre-loved is the cheapest way into most big houses. Today our partner retailers list 12,729 pre-loved designer bags priced £100 to £500. See pre-loved designer bags under £500, which leaves out wallets, pouches and charms. Check where the seller is first: on an overseas listing, import VAT alone adds 20%. If you're buying for someone else, our luxury gift guides by budget pick pieces under £250, £500 and £1,000.

Prices for new bags also move up: Chanel, Hermès and Louis Vuitton all raised bag prices in 2026 in at least some markets. Our luxury price increases tracker records each brand's UK rises with dates and sources, which helps you judge whether a pre-loved asking price is a saving at all.

By style: tote, crossbody, shoulder, clutch, bucket, basket

The style decides what to check as much as where to buy. The live lines below count listings at our partner retailers whose title names the style, so a bag can count under two styles; the lowest price is one named listing of £100 or more from a luxury house (brands such as Coach, Furla or Michael Kors are counted but not quoted), not an average, and eBay listings are not included.

Prices are sellers' asking prices. Nuvinty may earn a commission if you buy through a link. How we earn

Tote bags

An open or zipped carry-all big enough for a laptop or a day's things. Totes take the most wear of any bag, so on a pre-loved one look at the handles, the base corners and the lining before anything else. The best-known designer totes are the Louis Vuitton Neverfull and OnTheGo, the Goyard Saint Louis, the Dior Book Tote and the Chanel Grand Shopping Tote. Goyard doesn't sell its bags online, so resale is the main way to buy one without visiting a boutique.

Live today: 7,186 pre-loved and 8 new listings at our partner retailers. Lowest asking price from a luxury house: Salvatore Ferragamo Ribbon Lavander/Multicolor Woven Fabric Tote, £111 at The Luxury Closet, seen 22 Oct 2026.

Compare: Louis Vuitton Neverfull · Louis Vuitton totes · Goyard totes · Dior Book Tote · Chanel totes

Crossbody bags

Worn across the body on a long strap, so your hands stay free. On older pre-loved pieces the long strap is often missing or sold separately, so check it's in the photographs. Popular designer crossbody bags include the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis and Multi Pochette, the Chanel Wallet on Chain and the Hermès Evelyne.

Live today: 6,244 pre-loved and 10 new listings at our partner retailers. Lowest asking price from a luxury house: Tod's Silver Patent Leather Flap Crossbody Bag, £105 at The Luxury Closet, seen 22 Oct 2026.

Compare: Louis Vuitton crossbody bags · Chanel crossbody bags · Chanel Wallet on Chain · Hermès Evelyne

Shoulder bags

The everyday designer bag: carried on the shoulder on a short strap or chain. Look at the strap where it meets the hardware, since that is where leather cracks first. Classic shoulder bags include the Chanel Classic Flap, the Fendi Baguette, the Prada Re-Edition 2005 and the Saint Laurent Loulou.

Live today: 8,689 pre-loved and 19 new listings at our partner retailers. Lowest asking price from a luxury house: Chloe Beige Calf Hair and Suede Shoulder Bag, £108 at The Luxury Closet, seen 22 Oct 2026.

Compare: Chanel Classic Flap · Fendi Baguette · Prada Re-Edition 2005 · Saint Laurent Loulou

Clutch bags

A small handheld bag for evenings and occasions, sometimes with a detachable chain. Clutches get light use, so pre-loved ones are often in very good condition; check the clasp and the corners. Many designer clutches are sold as pochettes, such as the Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessoires, and small chain bags like the Chanel Wallet on Chain double as clutches.

Live today: 1,965 pre-loved and 2 new listings at our partner retailers. Lowest asking price from a luxury house: Marni Bow Blue Glossy Leather Flap Clutch, £108 at The Luxury Closet, seen 22 Oct 2026.

Compare: Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessoires · Chanel Wallet on Chain

Bucket bags

A rounded bag with a drawstring or open top. The Louis Vuitton Noé was first made to carry champagne bottles, and the newer NéoNoé adds a contrast lining. Check the drawstring and the base for wear, and look inside: older Noé linings can go sticky.

Live today: 1,284 pre-loved and 2 new listings at our partner retailers. Lowest asking price from a luxury house: Givenchy Beige Leather Bucket Bag, £179 at The Luxury Closet, seen 22 Oct 2026.

Compare: Louis Vuitton bucket bags · Louis Vuitton NéoNoé · Chanel bucket bags

Basket bags

Woven raffia, straw or wicker bags, mostly bought for summer. They're seasonal, so new ones appear in spring and pre-loved stock is thin, especially in autumn and winter. Woven fibres can't be restored like leather, so check the photographs for broken or loose weave, and the leather trim and handles for marks.

Live today: 489 pre-loved listings at our partner retailers. Lowest asking price from a luxury house: Stella McCartney Falabella Flap Grey Leather and Raffia Shoulder Bag, £209 at The Luxury Closet, seen 22 Oct 2026.

Near you: shops and fairs

London has the most pre-loved designer bag shops in one place: Brompton Road, Beauchamp Place and the King's Road in Knightsbridge and Chelsea, and consignment and vintage couture shops in Marylebone. Outside London, our UK pre-loved luxury map shows specialist shops by town, and the UK luxury and vintage fairs calendar lists dates where dealers sell in person.

Some London charity shops are known for donated designer pieces too: our London designer charity shops guide lists them with checked addresses and opening hours.

Before you go, compare the same bag online so you know what other sellers are asking, and ask the shop how it authenticates and what happens if a bag is later found not to be genuine.

How to avoid fakes

A good counterfeit copies the stamps, codes and cards, so you can't prove a bag is genuine from the outside. What protects you is buying where someone else has promised it is, in writing. Before you pay:

  1. Buy from the brand, a retailer it supplies, or a seller that guarantees authenticity in writing and says what happens if a bag turns out not to be genuine.
  2. Compare the price with other listings for the same model, size and condition. A price far below the rest is a warning sign.
  3. Ask for photographs of this bag, not stock images: the heat stamp, date code or serial, the inside, the hardware, the corners and the base.
  4. Learn the model's marks. Our guide to serial numbers and date codes explains what changed and when, including recent bags with microchips instead of codes.
  5. Don't treat a box, dust bag, card or receipt as proof. They are sold separately and copied too.
  6. Pay by credit card or through the marketplace's own checkout, never by bank transfer, and keep the listing and messages.
  7. Film yourself opening the parcel and check the bag against the listing while the return window is open.

Our authentication checklist walks through the physical checks brand by brand. It helps you spot a bad fake; it is not an authentication.

Common questions

Where can I buy designer bags in the UK?

New: from the brand's own boutiques and website, or from department stores and online retailers that stock the brand, such as Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. Some bags are sold only by the brand: Hermès sells Birkin and Kelly bags in its own stores only, and Louis Vuitton sells only through its own stores, its website and 24S. Pre-loved: from UK resale shops, specialist resellers and marketplaces. Choose one that puts its authenticity guarantee and returns policy in writing.

Where is the cheapest place to buy designer bags in the UK?

For brands that never discount, such as Chanel, Hermès and Louis Vuitton, the only lower price is pre-loved. For brands that do, such as Gucci, Prada, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Celine, Loewe, Burberry and Mulberry, past-season bags go to their outlets at Bicester Village and to multi-brand sales, especially around Black Friday. Pre-loved bags from £100 to £500 are the cheapest way into most big houses.

Where can I buy second-hand designer bags in the UK?

In person, London has the most specialist shops, in Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Marylebone, and some resale businesses have branches elsewhere in the UK. Online, you can buy from specialist resellers and from marketplaces such as eBay, which sends handbags of £200 or more from selected brands to an independent authenticator before they reach a UK address. Check where a bag ships from: a seller abroad can mean import VAT and duty on top.

Is it safe to buy a pre-loved designer bag online?

It can be, if someone other than the seller stands behind the bag. Buy where authenticity is guaranteed in writing, pay by credit card or through the marketplace's own checkout (never bank transfer), and read the returns policy first: some international resellers accept no returns from the UK. A price far below other listings for the same bag is a warning sign.

Do Chanel, Hermès or Louis Vuitton bags ever go on sale?

No. Chanel does not put its handbags on sale, Hermès holds no public sales on its leather goods, and Louis Vuitton says it never marks down its prices and has no outlets. None of the three has a store at Bicester Village. Louis Vuitton warns that discounted Louis Vuitton found online is probably fake unless it is second-hand.

Which designer bag brands have outlets at Bicester Village?

Among the big bag brands, Gucci, Prada, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Celine, Loewe, Burberry and Mulberry are listed in the Bicester Village directory; Dior's boutique there sells clothing. Mulberry also has outlets at Kilver Court in Somerset and Cheshire Oaks. Chanel, Hermès and Louis Vuitton are not at Bicester Village.

Does Nuvinty sell designer bags?

No. Nuvinty is a price-comparison site. We show listings from retailers and marketplaces and link you to them; the seller handles payment, authentication, delivery and returns on its own terms. We may earn a commission if you buy through a link.
