The UK guide
Where to sell designer bags in the UK
You can sell a designer bag in the UK in three ways: consign it with a resale service or shop that sells it for you and takes a commission, take an instant offer from a business that buys it outright, or list it yourself on a marketplace. Consignment and marketplaces usually get you more; an instant offer gets you paid fastest. Below, 14 services open to UK sellers compared on fees, payout time and how your bag or watch gets to them, each from the service's own terms.
Reviewed by the Nuvinty editorial team · Fees checked
Nuvinty is a price-comparison site. We don't buy, sell, value or authenticate anything, and no service pays to appear here. Fees change: confirm the current terms with the service before you sell.
Three ways to sell: consignment, instant offer, marketplace
Consignment: more money, more waiting
A consignment service or shop photographs, prices and sells your bag, and pays you an agreed share once it sells. You usually keep ownership until then, and many services can lower the price after a set time if it hasn't sold, so read how and when they can reduce it. Commission is often charged on a sliding scale, with a lower percentage on more expensive pieces.
Instant offer: paid quickly, for less
A resale business buys your bag outright and pays you within days, sometimes the same day in a shop. You carry no risk that it won't sell, but the offer has to leave the buyer room to cover its costs and resell at a profit, so it is lower than what the same bag fetches on consignment. Some businesses offer more if you take the value as credit or part-exchange.
Marketplace: you set the price, you do the work
On a marketplace you list the bag yourself, answer questions and post it, and the platform takes a fee when it sells. You keep the most of the sale price, but it can take longer, and the buyer may be able to return it. Some marketplaces check bags before they reach the buyer; that protects the buyer and means a bag that fails comes back to you.

Selling a Chanel bag
A Chanel bag is sold through the same resale routes as any other bag. What buyers check first is the model and size, the leather (caviar or lambskin), the hardware colour, the corners and the shape, and whether the serial sticker and card or, on recent bags, the microchip are present. Our guide to serial numbers and date codes explains what changed and when. Lambskin shows wear faster than caviar, so photograph it in daylight and describe any marks honestly: an accurate description avoids a return.
Classic models such as the Classic Flap, 2.55 Reissue, Boy and Wallet on Chain are the ones specialist consignment shops and buyers most want; less familiar seasonal pieces may sell more slowly on consignment. Before you accept an offer, see what sellers are asking for the same model today.
Current asking prices: Chanel Classic Flap · Chanel Boy · Chanel Wallet on Chain · Chanel 2.55 Reissue · Chanel 19
Selling a Louis Vuitton bag
Louis Vuitton says it never marks down its prices and has no outlets, so pre-loved is the only lower-priced route for buyers who want to pay less. Buyers look at the date code or, on recent bags, the microchip, the condition of the vachetta leather trim (it darkens with age), the corners of the canvas and the inside. A Neverfull with its pouch, or a Pochette Métis with its strap, is worth more complete, so include every part.
The canvas models made in the greatest numbers, such as the Neverfull, Speedy and Alma, are widely available pre-loved, so pricing yours against current listings matters more than for scarce pieces.
Current asking prices: Neverfull · Speedy · Alma · Pochette Métis · OnTheGo · Capucines
Selling a Rolex or other watch
Watches sell through specialists rather than general bag resellers. Your main choices are a pre-owned watch specialist that makes a firm offer or a part-exchange against another watch, a dealer near you, or listing it privately on a watch marketplace. The specialists below publish how they buy; the London pre-owned watch dealers guide and the UK map list dealers you can visit, many of which buy watches too.
The box and papers (the warranty card or certificate), the original bracelet links, service receipts and whether the watch has been polished all change what you are offered. Don't have it serviced or polished just to sell it: ask the buyer first, as some prefer an unpolished case. Ask for a straight purchase price and a part-exchange figure separately so you can compare them.
Current asking prices: Rolex Submariner · Rolex Datejust · Rolex Daytona · Rolex GMT-Master II · Omega Speedmaster · Cartier Santos
Selling in person
Selling face to face lets a specialist handle your piece before making an offer, and you can walk away. London has the most shops that buy or consign bags, in Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Marylebone: our London pre-loved bag shops guide lists them, and many buy outright or sell on consignment. Outside London, the UK pre-loved map shows specialist shops and watch dealers by town. Ring ahead: many buy by appointment, and some want photographs first.
If you sell to a shop, ask how it arrives at its offer, whether it pays by bank transfer on the day, and what happens if its authenticator later disputes the piece.
How to get the most for your piece
- Know the asking prices. Look up the same model, size and material on our model pages to see what sellers are asking today. These are asking prices, not sale prices, and an instant offer will be lower than both.
- Get more than one offer. Offers for the same bag can differ widely between buyers. Send the same photographs and description to each.
- Keep it complete. Box, dust bag, strap, pouch, receipt, authenticity card, watch papers and spare links can all add to the price. Find them before you ask for offers.
- Clean it, don't restore it. Wipe it gently and empty it. Repairs, recolouring or polishing can lower the price or make it harder to sell, so ask the buyer first.
- Photograph honestly. Daylight, every side, the corners, the inside, the stamps and hardware. Show the wear: a buyer who gets what was described won't send it back.
- Read the consignment terms. The commission rate, the minimum term, when the price can be reduced, who insures the bag and what it costs to take it back if it doesn't sell.
- Compare the net figure. What reaches your bank after commission, fees and postage, and when, is the number to compare; not the headline price.
- Protect yourself on marketplaces. Use the platform's own checkout and postage, never a buyer's request to pay off-platform, and record yourself packing high-value pieces.
More models with current asking prices: shop by model, including Hermès Birkin, Hermès Kelly, Lady Dior and Dior Saddle. Our asking-price checker lines up live listings of the same model.
Common questions
Where can I sell my designer bag in the UK?
Three kinds of place. A consignment service or shop sells it for you and pays you once it sells, minus its commission. A buyer such as a resale shop makes an instant offer and pays you straight away, usually for less. A marketplace such as Vestiaire Collective or eBay lets you list it yourself and set the price. Which is best depends on whether you want the highest price or the fastest money.
What is the best way to sell a designer bag quickly?
Take an instant offer from a resale business that buys bags outright. You trade some of the price for speed: the business has to cover its costs and resell at a profit, so its offer is lower than what the same bag might fetch on consignment or a marketplace. Get offers from more than one buyer.
Is it better to consign or sell my bag outright?
Consignment usually gets you more because you are paid a share of the final sale price, but you wait until it sells and the service may lower the price over time. Selling outright gets you paid quickly at a lower figure. For sought-after bags that sell fast, consignment often pays off; for slower sellers, a firm offer removes the risk.
Where is the best place to sell a Rolex in the UK?
There is no single best place: compare a firm offer from a pre-owned watch specialist or dealer with what you could get selling privately on a watch marketplace. Dealers pay quickly and take the risk of resale; selling privately can get more but takes longer and you deal with the buyer. Box, papers and service history all affect what you are offered.
How much is my designer bag worth?
What a buyer will pay depends on the model, size, material, condition and whether you have the box, dust bag and receipt. To get a feel for it, look at what sellers are asking for the same model today on our model pages, then remember asking prices are not sale prices, and a buyer making an instant offer will pay less than either.
Does Nuvinty buy designer bags?
No. Nuvinty is a price-comparison site. We don't buy, sell, value or authenticate anything, and none of the services on this page pays to be listed. Fees and terms are each service's own, checked on its website; confirm them before you sell.
