Chanel Classic Flap Sizes: Dimensions in cm and Strap Drop

Reviewed by the Nuvinty editorial team · Last checked

Chanel makes the Classic Flap in six current sizes: Mini Square, Mini Rectangular, Small, the Classic 11.12 (sold for years as the Medium), Large (the Jumbo) and Maxi. The dimensions below are Chanel's own, from its product pages; Chanel lists height first, so we have reordered them to width x height x depth. Strap drops are not shown on Chanel's pages, so those come from a reseller guide and should be checked on the bag itself.

Checking the size on a pre-loved listing

  • Chanel's pages list height x width x depth; many resale listings list width first. Check which way round a listing is before comparing.
  • Match the size name to the style code if the seller has the receipt or box label: A35200 Mini Square, A69900 Mini Rectangular, A01113 Small, A01112 Medium/11.12, A58600 Jumbo/Large, A58601 Maxi.
  • Measure the width across the front at the base. Depth reads differently on a carried bag than on a new one, so allow for about 1 cm of difference.
  • Lambskin slouches more with wear than caviar (grained calfskin), so two genuine bags of the same size can measure slightly differently.
  • Ask for the strap drop on the actual bag. The doubled-chain drop decides whether a Small or Medium sits on your shoulder or higher.

Questions

Is the Chanel Medium the same as the 11.12?

Yes. Chanel names the 25.5 cm wide Classic Flap the 'Classic 11.12 Handbag' (style code A01112); the resale market has long called it the Medium.

Is the Jumbo the same as the Large?

Yes. Chanel's current name for the 30 cm Classic Flap (A58600) is the Large Classic Handbag; 'Jumbo' is the long-standing market name.

Which Classic Flap is the smallest?

Of the current sizes, the Mini Square, at 17 cm wide on Chanel's figures. An Extra Mini (A65050) appears on the resale market but is not on Chanel's current pages.

Can I wear the Medium crossbody?

Luxe Front gives about 43 cm of drop on a single chain for the Medium. Whether that works crossbody depends on your height, so ask the seller to measure the strap drop.
